Folks, there are some amazing things out there for you to learn, which in turn enhance your skills, earnings, opportunities and understanding. But even better, they in turn create more joy, energy, creativity, love and success in your life. And, while this grows, so does the capability of your noggin to create space for even more. So though you may never reach full, the fabulous results while trying are sure worth it!

SOAPBOX of the week: the sign says PULL, folks!

“Act without doing; work without effort.”     – Tao te Ching by Chinese philosopher Lao-Tzu

Did you ever push too hard only to have the metaphorical swing come back and hit you dead-on in the chin?  Liken this to the self-inflicted searches for insight and inspiration from a bag of stale fortune cookies.  Sometimes you’ve just got to let the meaning find you.  Forcing profundity or comedy is like putting spoiled cream in your long awaited morning cup of coffee.  It tastes like crap… and wastes a perfectly good setup.  Be you.  Be open.  And sip slowly.

SOAPBOX of the week: communication transpiration

“The next message you need is right where you are.”    – Ram Dass, author and spiritual teacher

Each day you’re bombarded with contradicting messages, caught in the cross-fire of the present-tense purists and future-perfect fanatics.  One sizzles immediate gratification, a mindful calm sans calendars, and lessened let-down of expectations; while the other lures you with earned harvests, clarity from timelined plans, and the believable creation of your Big Picture dream.  So what’s the best ideology to follow?  Well, I say, read the ingredients so you know what’s “going down”, but then go ahead and swallow ‘em both!  The mixture yields the very best of combination for all of us: an appreciation of the here-and-now in all its glory, plus a hand-crafted hopeful lifeline of tomorrows.  Spontaneity can pair fabulously with the spreadsheets and scheduling …if you choose to allow it.  For ultimately, the more you commit to knowing thyself, the more obvious it becomes which recipe to nosh on, and when.  Now is the only constant, folks.  Changing your perspective of where you are and will yourself to be will potently power you both today and to infinity.

SOAPBOX of the week: relentless pursuit of purpose

“It is really important for each one of us to validate our existence.  You have to become aware that there is something beyond the meat-and-potatoes reality.”     – Carlos Santana, musician

Why are you here?  What are you doing while you are here?  How about: where are you even looking for such enlightenment?  Be honest.  Do you seek confirmation from the umpteen activities, things and possessions you’re buried in?  Or stake all truth in kudos from friends or mere coworkers?  Sounds crazy, huh?  So don’t.  Instead, look within, to discover within, and let the nourishment of answers out.   What are your beliefs?  When do you feel happiest?  What do you want to accomplish?  Yup, this is the tough stuff.  But once grounded in who you are, the search for why you’re here ain’t so difficult.  Find your purpose and reel it in with fervor.  Then take your seat at a royal table set for one and enjoy the faire.

SOAPBOX of the week: new year, old wisdom

“Patience and perseverance have a magical effect before which difficulties disappear and obstacles vanish.”     – John Quincy Adams, US President

Gooooooood morning, race fans! How’s the ride so far? Let me guess. As soon as the second hand strikes and Dick Clark alarmclocks the world onto a clean slate, you set to full throttle and take off like a mid-life-crisis man in a new Corvette.

With heart pounding and champagne in your eyes, you decide that you will take the wheel and make things go your way this year, come hell or high water. Righting the wrongs. Shaking the systems. Cutting the fat. Testing the waters. Revolutionizing the resolutions. Painting a free-wheeling, forward thinking phantasmagoric mural of all that is, was, and ever will be the real future perfect you deserve. All in the name of an unyielding loyalty to the natural selection of self, at least until about mid-February.

I must confess, I too burn a rouge of rubber just as eagerly each year. Even ponder the thought that the heavens will magically open up and confetti my little field of dreams with all the blessing and adornments that I’ve kept cooped up for the past twelve months. Sound familiar? Well, I have both good and bad news for you.

Bad news first:
A supercharged vehicle won’t get you through the roadblocks any faster. No matter how much shifting and strategizing you perform, the course will dictate your life’s journey. Not the other way around. And if you’re thinking you can brainstorm your agenda-ed TripTik into an immediate reality, think again. Enough with the red line, race fans, you’re libel to blow the whole engine again.

Now for the good news: You’ve already done the work. You’ve got the ride, the route, and reason for success in all pillars of your future. So, recline with the resonating truth that patience remains the worthwhile virtue that will never fail to fuel your expedition. Coast over your holographic horizon to discover another bountifully balanced year ahead, in body, mind, and spirit. And embrace the magical open road.

SOAPBOX of the week: the beauty of painted bewilderment

“The world doesn’t make sense, so why should I paint pictures that do.”      – Pablo Picasso

Left brain vs. right.  The creatives vs. the techies.  Realists vs. dreamers.  Subjectivity allows for ambiguity and confuses both sides when it comes to art.  And isn’t it funny how we magnify our opinions of painting and performance –spouting judgment, dismissing importance and demanding explanation.  As if we expect mathematical equation to give us a “why”.  Yet, without rhyme or reason we accept reality TV, love at first sight, dogs wearing clothing, people driving the speed limit, and Hostess Twinkies as “normal” and without question.  Point being, art reflects life, folks.  So embrace the confusion…each of us helps create it!
