SOAPBOX of the week: justification of just-in-case

“Plan ahead.  It wasn’t raining when Noah built the ark.”     – Anonymous

If you answer the call of spontaneity without hesitation, then more power to you!  Jumping into a new adventure with your hair on fire has its perks.  The endorphin rush of new exploration.  The excitement in your gut from pure curiosity.  But, many times a poor or quick decision interrupts the fun guessing game, derailing you back to square one.  And, when you’re delayed and deflated, the idea of planning doesn’t sound so nerdy after all.  Flying by the seat of your pants has its place, and is key to keeping the kid in you alive!  But pull out a notebook for the big rides, folks.  Research your clever ideas, concoct a strategy, and arm yourself with tools to survive the sharp turns and steep drops… and you’ll thrive on those fast straight-aways.

SOAPBOX of the week: stand tall and cheer

“Behind every successful man stands a surprised mother-in-law.”     – Hubert H. Humphrey, political leader

Now, I’m rather certain the brightest achievers of our times didn’t willingly surrounded themselves with critics, cynics, and judgmental busybodies. Heck – neither did your own little hometown hero.  No invitations were handed out to engage audiences to readily toss rotten remark and rotten tomato alike …for added mockery and witless banter.  Nope, the doubters and diggers simply showed up as a rule, for they’re the wishers and wasters who hate to love to watch the dreamers and doers…like moths to a flame.  And even as you yourself may strive for the lead role, the key lesson in irony is that you may have your own time in the sideline seat.  Either way, folks, your surge of opinions can prove supportive or sabotaging.  So be watchful of your own judging tongue, ‘cause there’s always an audience.  And no matter if it’s full of family, friend or foe…you want to be on their good side, just as you’ll want them on yours.

SOAPBOX of the week: the wonder of …what if

“Deep within man dwell those slumbering powers: powers that would astonish him, that he never dreamed of possessing; forces that would revolutionize his life if aroused and put into action.”  – Orison Swett Marden, Founder Success magazine

Now, if you’re stuck thinking your power cord’s tangled up… or unplugged entirely… here’s some inspiration.  Think of how different our world would be if the Kennedy’s never pursued politics?  If Rosa Parks never got on that bus?  If Elvis never left gospel music?  These crusaders had and still have an impact our daily lives.  Look around: there’s an entrepreneur selling his invention out of a garage; a kid starting a rock band; a single mom juggling to get her PhD.  Choose to follow suit… and you ignite a magnetic field for greatness.  Expand your view of life and your place in it.  Astonish yourself by tapping your powers and generate you own magical current.  Who knows how far your influence might ripple!

SOAPBOX of the week: The sabotage of success

“It’s not who you are that holds you back, it’s who you think you’re not.”     – Anonymous

We all know what fear of failure feels like, right?  Trepidations overwhelm our initiatives and we fear falling flat on our faces…perhaps because we believe that WHO WE ARE ain’t up to par for the challenge at hand.  Makes sense right?  Well, there are also frequent times when we fear success just as strongly, if not moreso.  Crazy, huh?  Here, we let our self-images run amuck in negative energy and we end up believing that WE’RE NOT that person ready for the next level.  We sense the success we’ve created is just within reach …but convince ourselves there’s no way we’re prepared for the changes and greater opportunities that’ll come along with the leap.  Folks, release yourself from a doomed image!  Imagine a great new one and you’ll become it. Elect to bury the fear and bring blossom to a brighter future.

SOAPBOX of the week: Results are not everything

“Give up cleverness for bewilderment.”     – Dr. Wayne Dyer, motivational speaker and author

Funny, how sometimes the moment you achieve a goal you’d set, you immediately forget all the blood, sweat and tears you shed to get there!  You can’t believe you did it!  Were you really that sharp?  Well, there’s a cause and effect for everything.  Simply put, your investment of hard work paid off.  Conversely, there are reasons for when you don’t hit the mark.  But when you again stand in disbelief, this time at the disappointing results …truth is: you still shed blood, sweat and tears to get that far.  Regardless of the outcome, folks, the same go-getter in you still showed up to hustle for a “win”.  So, don’t dissect the details.  Acknowledge both as true steps on the path of life successes…and lose yourself in the fabulous mystery.
