SOAPBOX of the week: set free the animosity

“Resentment is like taking poison and waiting for the other person to die.”     – Malachy McCourt, writer and politician

Some wise person once enlightened me with the deflatingly realistic truth that people can and will let us all down.  Weaved amidst the plethora of people, places and things you see, go and do, are situations that arise to tangle your plans, stomp your expectations, and defeat your hopes.  In virtually every place you and someone else cross paths, that somebody has the ability to let you down.  Be it with benign backfiring or malicious intent, their actions will cause nuisance and nuclear blast alike, leaving your spirit with wounds of hurt, anger, loss, and regret.  Left to fester, they poison your heart and mind, while the wrong-doer simply moves on.  But regardless the impact, it’s ultimately your choice -if and when- to forgive.  Electing absolution allows for your healing and rebuilding with a mere memory of the mistake left to fade.  Learn to let go, and you’ll learn to hold on to what matters –living a fearless life still chock full of positive plans, expectations, and hopes.

SOAPBOX of the week: your precious, priceless peeps!

“One is taught by experience to put a premium on those few people
who can appreciate you for what you are.”       -Gail Godwin, novelist

From your first breath to your last, you’ll cross paths with millions of people, purposefully engage with thousands, and get to know a bit of the good, bad, and ugly of hundreds…who in turn, merely know you by name, renown, or need you fulfilled.  But because of circumstances and timing, from both clever choice and magical chance, a sprinkling of gems finally sifts out of the lot; the proverbial diamonds you’ve hoped for to keep for the long haul.  You know their birthdays and biggest failures, and can agree to disagree on anything…down to the best movie of all time.  But most importantly, they mirror your mindset; for they allow you to open the shuttered windows to your personal history and entrust truths and trials, fears and flaws without regret.  Call them confidantes, motivators, advisors, beer buddies, cheerleaders, lifesavers or just friends;  they enhance your daily mainstreet-wallstreet dual life and enrich innumerable facets you’ve overlooked, ignored or undervalued.  Net-net: they’re “keepers”.  So, while you count on them without second thought, make it priority to thank them with whole heart.  Just as you can count these premium pals on only one hand, trust that they’re doing the same thing…and couldn’t be happier.

SOAPBOX of the week: ready, willing and lucky

“Luck is what happens when preparedness meets opportunity.”     – Elmer G. Letterman, author

Our whole lives this intangible, karmic concept twinkles in life’s ever-changing backdrop. An ever-present layer in the atmosphere that confetties its blessings with random affection and keeps us mesmerized like naïve children. It’s the stories of winning lottery tickets, love at first sight, and killer jog opportunities that string us along with unsquashable hope that the unpredictable sprinkles will find us someday …if we’re reeeaally good! Well, humor me, but don’t hold your breath too long, folks. Instead, try shifting your perspective to a more proactive stance with you at the helm, actually creating your own good fortune. Hey, why not think you could be that powerful of a force? After all, tenacity, smart decisions, honest efforts, integrity and goodwill tend to concoct those right-place-right-time magical scenarios from which anyone and everyone can prosper. So, if you want your own 4-leaf-clover tales to share, roll up your sleeves, peel open your eyes, and get ready for greatness…and once-in-a-lifetime blessings will most certainly land right at your feet.

SOAPBOX of the week: the dual mirror of decency

“Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.”     – Jesus, Book of Luke

Well, it just don’t get any simpler than that, folks!  The universal Golden Rule, that we’re spoon-fed from birth.  It knows no race, religion or culture and has the awesome influence to create harmony, diffuse rage, jump-start conversation, instigate contemplation and self-reflection, and nurture L-O-V-E!  And we know just how gooood it feels, not only when neighbor or nameless honorably applies this immutable “ethical code of life” for our benefit; but also when we do the same.  Unfortunately, it’s in our unyielding, selfish pursuits of happiness, that we oftentimes morph our inalienable rights into actions of pompous privilege and entitlement…and trample innocent bystanders along the way.  What about investing some overdue time and energy into the converse of this landmark law:  “Do NOT do unto others as you would NOT have them do unto you.” For, with freedom and opportunity, comes responsibility.  When we acknowledge the effects of our own actions and imagine ourselves on the receiving end, only then can we truly absorb the omnipotent message.  Folks, we’re all mortal human beings.   It’s our obligation to honor the spirit of fairness that lies at the heart of morality.  Choose to consistently confetti this lifesaving truth into your own lifestyle and personality and more folks might just do the same.  Confirming that you are indeed both poles of the law of attraction.

Kimberlie Dykeman Introduces the SOAPBOX® In-Home Inspiration Party

The SOAPBOX® In-Home Inspiration Party is a truly unique gathering started by Kimberlie Dykeman, TV Host, Motivational Speaker and Author of Pure Soapbox.  This past November, Kimberlie thought she was having just a much overdue, yet simple gathering at her house.  And since she is such a fan of famous quotes, she wanted to create an intimate event for some fabulous women to see what kind of connection and inspiration could ignite merely by tossing in her signature SOAPBOX® vignettes, bite-sized jolts of motivation wrapped around powerful quotes.  What happened was magical! Every woman that attended called or emailed that night or the next day saying, “I DID NOT WANT TO LEAVE!!”  The response was so amazing that Kimberlie has chosen to keep the momentum going… and wants you to join in!

SO WHAT IS IT?     Well, this ain’t your grandmother’s Tupperware gathering or rerun networking event where you toss back wine and WHINE about work (or lack thereof!)  It stems from the SOAPBOX® brand, based on quotes…which are one of the most engaging and widely used forms of inspiration.  For millions, they create an experiential link to the past and cultivate hope for a brighter future.  From the book PURE SOAPBOX, to upcoming product lines, and an (eventual) talk show, Kimberlie leverages the power of profundity and timeless wisdom in famous quotes to promote living life to its fullest.  Because the SOAPBOX® message resonates with everyone, she believes this foundation for intimate home parties makes for a truly unique experience!  A party allows for a Host to bring brilliant women together to connect as businesswomen, moms and singles, and simply as strong human beings who have survived incredible life experiences.  It also allows for folks to make fabulous new friends, dump some old baggage, and take away fresh insights for both heart and mind.

On top of it, it allows Kimberlie to spread more awareness and garner more support for her chosen charity, LIVESTRONG™, which receives proceeds from all SOAPBOX® product sales.  And in turn, SOAPBOX® In-Home Inspiration Parties motivate both hosts and guests to get involved with local and global charities.  Net-net: a chance to get on one’s SOAPBOX and get inspired for what the future holds!

HOST YOUR OWN!      Kimberlie Dykeman Enterprises is set to grow this grassroots idea virally throughout Austin and other cities!  Are you jazzed to share this experience with your own circles of friends and influence?  Then sign up to hold one at your own home!  As a Host, you’ll receive a SOAPBOX® In-Home Inspiration Party Starter Kit and our assistance in planning the evening.  And since the messages from Kimberlie’s book are central to the event, personally signed copies of PURE SOAPBOX will be available for your guests to purchase ahead, to use as a tool for the evening and as a memorable take-away!  PLUS, Kimberlie donates a portion of the book proceeds to your own favorite charity!  With enough advance notice, Kimberlie herself will be on-hand to help Co-Host your party, entertain your friends, and sign copies of PURE SOAPBOX

SOAPBOX of the week: less stuffed, more satisfying

“Happiness is not a goal, it is a by-product.”     ~ Eleanor Roosevelt, social activist and writer

Pull up an eggnog and hear me out. And so begins the once-a-year mad rush. The hunt for the perfect gift. Fighting crowds for last minute preparations. Those of us not hurrying home for Christmas are cramming in last minute get-aways. ‘Tis the season of joy and merriment, now on sale for $69.99, aisle 5. Alas, the holiday spell rears its alter-ego, Hallmark-ed ugly head. From the sounds of it, you’d think we were readying ourselves for the fight of a lifetime, damned and determined to make this celebration more memorable and more star-studded than the last. But this year’s traditionally frantic, albeit festive holiday season is decorated in a different set of lights.

Unfortunately, some of us find ourselves, yet again, up against bosses and bills, deadlines and waiting lines. Ironically, this time of supposed glee surfaces another year’s memories, sweet and bitter alike. Earning its own chapter in our collective personal history books, sometimes we stand in awe of the tough times and negative events that altered the very backdrop of The Big Picture. Many of us even take to re-evaluating, re-booting, and re-uniting in hopes of making the neighborhood, let alone this world, a better place. But to our dismay, the pressures of our bigger-better-faster high-tech society yank our global gaze back to an unyielding state of chronic stress. Weighed down, perhaps, by the loss of family, friends, jobs, and financial security, our ability to regain a natural balance stands compromised, and we wonder what can transform this into a happy holiday again.

Well, if the glass appears half-empty, I can tell you right now, if you pray each year that good ol’ St. Nick will overstuff your stocking with happiness, you might as well ask for a Lego erector set to go along with it. For, I have a hunch that you’ll need a few colorful tools, and perhaps the magic of Rudolph’s shiner, to bring this intangible notion into sight as a sparkly new toy under the tree. With little reservation, I propose that a wish for a state of equilibrium tops our common holiday lists. So perhaps this is opportunity knocking, egging you to take the reigns and pursue your own path toward surviving and thriving. Admittedly, giving to others is paramount on your mind, but if you’re yearning for a healthier state of mind and for the clouds to clear, you’ve got to give to yourself. And time is of the essence. When you re-learn how to take care of and reward yourself, your valuation of self in relationship with everything and everyone around you will profoundly change, and you’ll find your needy glass filled with the spirits of true joy.

You have the power to dictate your experience during the holidays. You must make it a time of relaxing, reflecting, and rejoicing in how far you’ve come each year in all aspects of your life. If you fail to give to yourself, you’ll rob yourself of the opportunity to attain balance and genuine happiness and embrace the coming of a healthy new year.
