SOAPBOX® mini-motivation: ode to family

“What greater thing is there for human souls than to feel that they are joined for life – to be with each other in silent unspeakable memories.”     ~ George Eliot a.k.a. Mary Anne Evans, Victorian novelist and journalist

Ahhhhh…family.  Can’t live with ’em.  Can’t live without ’em.  A visit is a shot in the arm of humility, humor, and honor all in one fell swoop.  Even with all the rerun stories, nagging comments, embarrassing nicknames, old habits, and wildly different personalities, they surprisingly, almost passively, provide the powerful medicine we all invariably need, at just the right time.   Need a pick-me-up?  Talk to Aunt.  Need a swift kick of  the-world-doesn’t-revolve-around-you?  Talk to Sis.  What about a urging to just slow down and have some fun?  There’s Mom.  Or a smack of how amazing creation really is…each and every one of us?  Play on the dirty floor with Niece and, of course, Pooh and Bun-Bun.  And then, there’s Pop… whenever you feel like you haven’t even made a dent in this overbearing, overjudging world- he offers an assuring hug and “ya done good”.

Yup.  Family is it… at least in my little opinion.  And though we may blame many of our faults, foibles and funny characteristics on any (or all!) who share our bloodline… they are, ironically, the ultimate healing element in our lives that will never expire.  Believe in that notion and find peace in the fact that “joined for life” is a blessed thing.  Period.           ~ KD

  1. Sometimes we forget how much family means to us. Thanks for the reminder. Are you visiting now? Or gone back to Texas already?
